Shakhtar – runners-up of U15 International Tournament

International Sheriff U15 Football Tournament’s final match was played yesterday in Tiraspol, Moldova. FC Shakhtar academy team successfully passed through the group stage and beat their contemporaries from Russia in semi-final.

In the final Shakhtar had to face the hosts of the tournament, Sheriff. Although the Young Miners lost the match 0-1, they made a very good impression on the audience. Having lost the only goal on 17 minute, Shakhtar spent the rest of the playing time attacking Sheriff goal, striving to eliminate the difference. Despite of numerous scoring opportunity, Shakhtar failed to take any of the chances. Moreover, two Shakhtar players, Chereda and Sadokh, were sent off at the beginning of the second half. Nevertheless, even in minority our boys managed to stun the spectators with superb performance.

Academy students go on vacation

The end of the year 2008 is near. Very soon Shakhtar academy apprentices shall go on vacation.

For Shakhtar-3 players holidays shall begin on 6 December and last till 5 January. Al other teams shall be enjoying their holidays from 20 December till 12 January.

From the very beginning the visitors had chosen to play defensive football. Shakhtar, been too much keen on attacks, allowed them to carry out a prompt combination which resulted in a goal. Before the break the young Miners failed to equalise.

Superb chance our boys got in the second half when the referee awarded them a penalty kick. Prychynenko stepped up, took it but the keeper of Girnyk-Sport proved he knew his job well and saved.

Academy coaches visited Manchester United

As you know, delegation of Shakhtar academy coaches paid a visit to one of the top English Premier League clubs – Manchester United. Our correspondent met the specialists and asked them about their impression of the visit.

YuriGulyayev, U-15 coach:

Sure, it was a very useful to visit Manchester United. What Shakhtar and MU have in common is that in our clubs created all conditions for the young players. Organisation of the training process is on a very high level. Our academies pursue same goal, which is raising top-class footballers. By the way, Manchester scouts operate within a 30-kilometer radius, whereas our specialists travel around Ukraine. It means that the English club rely exclusively on local talents.

Oleksandr Ladeyko, U-14 coach:

No doubt, we have learned a great deal from one of the world’s biggest clubs. MU reserve team players regularly appear in the matches of the first team. It is certainly a great psychological support for the youngsters and it also urges them to do their best at trainings. For example, reserve team players appeared in one of MU’s FA Cup matches.

Valeriy Rudakov, U-19 coach:

I must say that our clubs have same ideas about how to prepare young players for the first team. In MU they mix together different age groups. It means that a gifted boy from U-15 can train and even play for U-18. Reserves sometimes train along with the first team. We find it right. Soon we shall apply such methods here in Donetsk.

What’s more, we have invited MU football academy to participate in the Braguin Cup. Soon they shall give their answer.

OleksandrFunderat, U-17 coach:

During our visit we had a chance to take a closer look at the infrastructure of the club and learn about their training process, etc. We have studied their training course for 10-year-old academy apprentices and up to the first team players. We also were present at the U-16 and U-18 teams’ match against their contemporaries from Everton. We also saw the FA Cup match against Queens Park Rangers. We were allowed to be present at all training sessions including trainings of the first team.
They train kids from a very young age to play the football we all know as the English style – powerful and fast.

It was a rather tough game for Shakhtar-3. The Young Miners met a team who were some two points behind inn the league table. And, it should be mentioned, our rivals looked better in the first half. As a result, Girnyk unsealed our goal in 39 minute.

Six minutes after the restart of the game a Girnyk player deliberately handled the ball and the referee pointed at the eleven-meter mark – Prychynenko made it 1-1. Six minutes later Ponomer doubled the lead and his team-mate Maksymenko cemented Shakhtar’s success in the stoppage time.

In their match against Arsenal, Shakhtar academy apprentices showed well-organised and tactical performance. The Young Miners were aware of their rivals’ strength and prepared for the match thoroughly. 9 minutes after the kick-off, Praslov headed the first goal.

Our boys doubled the lead just a few minutes after the interval: Dvali made it 2-0. On 50 minute Martsynyuk set the final score in the game, 3-0.

Shakhtar-3 and another Donetsk team, Olympik drew 1-1 in a derby that was played earlier today. Olympik opened the score on 26 minute and were close to winning the match had it not been for a late penalty kick from Shakhtar. The hosts had another chance as the referee awarded them a penalty kick in the injury time but our goalkeeper denied their last attempt.

Generally speaking, the first half of Kharkiv game in which the local team received players of “Shakhtar-3”, went under Donetsk dictation. But unfortunately positional and territorial advantage did not take shape of scoring superiority.

“Miners” managed to open the score in the middle of the first half. On 23^rd minute from the free kick Oparin hit the defensive wall. The ball bounced to the same Oparin and he used the possibility to strike rival’s gates. From the “miner's” repeated mighty kick the ball blew right into the net after rebound from Arsenal defenders. But the host team not left a favor unanswered for a long. On 37^th minute Donetsk goalkeeper irresolutely palmed the ball away and the first one to finish off was Emelyanov to net the “spotted” in Donetsk gates.

The game became even during the second half and the home squad used every effort to snatch the victory. But all their attempts were for vain. In return “miners” were not sitting out in defense, a couple of times they were quite close to rival’s gates capture. But, up to “miners” coach staff opinion, the major minus was uncertain actions of wards in attack.

Having amicable in the game with Arsenal, Donetsk team occupy the third place in standings with 16 points.
